Basic Skills

WHAT IS BASIC SKILLS?
The goal of the Basic Skills Program is to help your child develop those skills that are essential for academic success.  The program provides a teacher for extra support for children who are struggling with reading, writing and/or math.

HOW DOES MY CHILD GET INTO BASIC SKILLS?

Students are recommended to Basic Skills based upon teachers' recommendations and grades.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ONCE MY CHILD IS IN THE PROGRAM?

A Basic Skills teacher will work with your child in a small group
for Language Arts and/or Math.

HOW LONG WILL MY CHILD BE IN THE BASIC SKILLS PROGRAM?

Based upon teachers' recommendations, grades, and/or classroom performance, students may leave the program.  But, keep in mind that the classroom teacher will continually monitor your child and will offer support during this transitional phase.

WHEN WILL MY CHILD ATTEND BASIC SKILLS?
In order to fulfill  the requirements for Title 1 funding, students are required to attend class two periods per subject, per week.
